Our History
Year 2003
The 2003 Education Review Office (ERO) described us, as providing, a safe, secure, environment for learning, with a programme based, on a child-initiated approach.
Our head teacher, was providing capable leadership, and was working collaboratively, with teachers, with the support of the association, to review programme implementation.
ERO recommended, more of a team approach, should be adopted to enhance, the program development, and establish, self and peer appraisal, to improve, communication with children.
Year 2006
In 2006, a new head teacher was appointed, and the focus since that time, has developed a new team approach.
Together teachers have revised, the team philosophy, and improved systems for:
- self review
- curriculum development
- long-term planning
- links, with the community
- integrate Te Reo Maori in the program
Future plans include the redevelopment of the:
- kitchen
- storeroom
- outdoor area
- display space
Brown Owl Kindergarten offers, three six-hour and two four-hour sessions each week.
Fifty five percent of children, at Brown Owl Kindergarten, are part Maori. The Education Review Office (ERO) observed the program, in action for a full day, held discussions, with teachers, and committee members, and analyzed relevant documentation.
Education Review Office (ERO) communicated, with children, and teachers, to determine, the depth of knowledge, about the childrens:
- strengths
- interests
- learning
- development
How this information assist in planning, and implementing, appropriate programs.
